   Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is full of magnificent landscapes.

In this article you will discover the 9 unmissable during your visit.

1. Explore Sigiriya at sunrise

Sigiriya is a magical place. A huge rock in the middle of the plain has been carved, cut and has swimming pools at the top.

You can visit it at the opening at 7 a.m., but it's crowded and the entrance is around thirty euros.

Instead, climbing the rock opposite, Pidurangala rock, at night, before sunrise is a good exercise and costs around € 2.50 !!

I promise you fun to climb with the phone flash as a torch, and an unforgettable moment when the sun rises, the colors will be soft and the plain will wake up. The landscape with the rock emanating from the mist looks like a cartoon.

2. Bathe 200m high in the Diyaluma waterfalls

Diyaluma waterfalls are the 2nd tallest in Sri Lanka. At the top of the 200m high waterfall, several levels offer natural pools where you can swim.

This place is not yet well known to tourists, but many locals. So I recommend you go there early in the morning.

The path is not hard in itself, but not obvious.

Find how to access it in the Diyaluma waterfalls article

3. Visit the 9 arches bridge of Ella

The iconic Sri Lanka Bridge is located just outside Ella. 30 minutes of walking in the jungle and the view from the bridge appears.

Between tea plantations and bamboo forest, this 25m high bridge is a must see during your stay in Sri Lanka.

4. The train between Ella and Kandy

You've surely seen it everywhere on Instagram, this famous blue train is known for the fact that you can hang at the doors while admiring the landscape.

Between tea plantations, mountains and rivers, the 7 hour journey is one of the most scenic in the world.

And it only costs € 1.72 !!

Tip: sometimes you have to book in advance and they say there is no more room. Come back to the station opening at 6 a.m. the day you leave, and you can buy a ticket for the first train.

5. Go and meet wildlife

Sri Lanka has a pretty incredible wild life. Animals are everywhere. Between turtles, dolphins, elephants, leopards, buffaloes ... you will find what you are looking for. The country has no less than 26 national parks!

The tourist infrastructure is pretty well done, and it is therefore one of the countries in Asia where to see the most wild animals.

Udawalawe is the safari I recommend.

6. Spend a day at Galle Fort

Fort de Galle was built in the 18th century by the Dutch on the coast. In the fort, you will discover cute streets, where the buildings have been transformed into shops and small restaurants.

The lighthouse is the icon of Galle Fort, stroll along the coast at sunset for a magical moment.

The architecture of the site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Little Adams Peak is a short hike and accessible to everyone, unlike that of Adams Peak, which is the harder version!

The view is breathtaking, and it's definitely a breath of fresh air during your stay in Ella.

8. Take photos on the famous "swings"

Who has not dreamed of swinging hanging from a palm tree facing the sunset? This is possible in Sri Lanka. You will find several on different beaches, unfortunately you have to pay a few euros to use it.

Everything is becoming business these days, but tell yourself that you are helping the locals and that you are having a good time.

The best known of these is the one opposite Dream Cabana on Delawella / Wijaya Beach.

9. Surf and enjoy the good vibes

Before landing in Sri Lanka, I didn't know you could surf there. Sri Lankans have the real surfer look, long curly bleached blond hair at the ends and the shell necklace.

You will find plenty of small beach bars with a laid-back atmosphere, so you might as well take advantage and try your hand at surfing before the aperitif!
